Banana Chocolate Brownies
I love bananas and chocolate together, but my husband thinks they are two things that should stay apart. I figured I would try to win him over with these bad boys.
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup softened butter
- 3-5 ripe bananas, mashed (depends how banana-y you want them!)
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- (optional) ½ cup pecans
Since I cook by trial and error, I will go ahead and say that it would be best to use a larger pan than I did (maybe use a 13X9). I will give the directions here as if I used that size pan. It should come out much better than mine did, though it was very tasty regardless!
Preheat the oven to 350° and grease a 13X9 baking pan. Beat the sugar and butter in a bowl until creamy. Add in the bananas, egg and vanilla, beating until they are well blended. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add this mixture to the bananas and blend. If you would like pecans, now would be the time to add them in. I’m not a huge fan of nutty desserts, but if you are, I think they would be a great addition.
Now, pour half of the batter into the bowl you used to combine the dry ingredients. Mix the cocoa powder into the mix still left in your original bowl. Spread the chocolate mixture into your greased baking pan. Pour the banana mixture on top of it and spread it out. Take a knife and swirl the mixture together.
At this point, I had it in the oven. I sat down to tell my husband what I was making. He said ‘oooohhhh, put some chocolate chips on top!’ Who am I to deny him chocolate chips?! So on top they went.
You should bake it 30-35 minutes, or until set and the top slightly browned. Again, mine came out good, but since the dish was so small, I had to cook it at a lower temperature and for longer. The top was too browned by the time the middle was just right. But don’t think he wasn’t won over by these banana brownies of love! Who wouldn’t want to sit down with a nice, big glass of milk and one of these…
